Frequency: Every 1-2 years, depending on soil type, weather and traffic
Lawn core aeration is the mechanical extraction of soil plugs that are approximately 3" in length and about the width of a finger from lawn areas. This action is meant to reduce soil compaction to help thicken up EXISTING lawns, especially when combined with
over-seeding. After a lawn core aeration service, these plugs will be left on the surface of the lawn and will eventually break down back into the soil.
The best time for lawn core aeration is late August - early October. Aerating is also beneficial in the spring if the soil is heavily compacted or if there is a heavy thatch layer present. Aeration should be done every 1-2 years depending on weather conditions and the amount of lawn traffic.
